Last chance for bands to perform at Fringe Sunday

The May 30th deadline for applications from new bands and solo acts to perform at Fringe Sunday is fast approaching.

The Performing Right Society (PRS) is giving new bands and solo acts, a chance to perform their own music live at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on Fringe Sunday (10th August 2008).

Fringe Sunday is the family day of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and annually attracts over 200,000 visitors.

Eight bands or solo acts will be selected by a panel of music industry experts to perform their own music on the PRS New Music Stage.

Ellis Rich, Chairman of PRS said: 'Playing live on the PRS new music stage is a fantastic opportunity for new and emerging artists to perform their original music to enthusiastic Edinburgh Fringe crowds. We are proud to continue supporting this great live event and would encourage as many bands and artists to enter as possible.'

Media Partners Xfm Radio are proudly promoting the PRS New Music stage for the third year running. Finalists tracks will be aired on Xfm in the lead up to the event and on the day Xfm presenter Jim Gellatly will present the performances.

Jim Gellatly, Xfm presenter said: ‘PRS New Music Stage is an amazing opportunity for acts to showcase at one of the highlights of the festival. I first saw Broken Records on the stage last year, and they've now become one of my favourite new bands.’

Music News Scotland are also supporting the event for the fourth year running.

Many of the bands have enjoyed considerable success since their performances on the PRS New Music Stage since its launch in 2002.

Tamara Schlesinger from 6 Day Riot who performed last year said: ‘Playing Fringe Sunday was a wonderful experience for us, an opportunity to play to a full tent of eager listeners and the chance to get our music out to more people.

It has opened doors for us in Scotland and we've picked up some new fans along the way. At the time it was one of the biggest crowds we had played to; it is still one of our most memorable gigs.’

Applications are welcome from all genres of music and from any country. To enter, applicants must complete the online form and submit URL (web address) links to sample tracks.
