Interview: The Hoosiers

The HoosiersWeb Interview – The Hoosiers

London-based three piece, The Hoosiers, took the UK charts by storm in 2007, landing two top-five singles and a number one album, The Trick to Life.  Currently taking their distinctive brand of comedy infused pop-rock around the world, they took some time out to talk about their plans for the coming year, working with a British comedy legend and much else besides…

1. 2007 was a year when The Hoosiers exploded onto the UK music scene, what do you think 2008 will hold in store for you?

It appears that the powers that be will peddle us around every country, county and village in the world to spread the word of The Hoosiers - at which point we will object vehemently at the request to play an adapted version of Worried About Ray at a yodelling convention, and Martin will unwisely plummet to his death after attempting to wrestle a particularly sturdy Swiss mountain goat. Upon news of his death, the Hoosiers will replace their Swedish warlord with Mark King who will guide there tricky second album with his steady, pounding basslines and close harmony. They will then join forces with the two founding members of Half-Man-Half-Biscuit and travel the subcontinent.

2. What are your most prized possessions, music-related or otherwise?

Our iPods.

3. You have dubbed your fans “Hoosierites” – what behaviour would you say typifies a Hoosierite?

Hoosierites grow from the ground up, whereas Hoosiertites hang from the ceiling.

4. Irwin last year accused Ben Stiller of “[changing]…his face to look like me”. Are there any people in the public realm for whom you would undergo facial modifications to resemble?  Please give detailed responses.

Michael Barrymore.

5. You recently recorded a cover of yuletide favourite Little Drummer Boy with Ricky Gervais. What was he like to work with?

A prick - no, not really! He was awesome. Down to earth and as funny as a whoopee cushion.

6. Is there anyone else that you would like to collaborate with, dead or alive?

Bon Jovi - perhaps singing Dead or Alive.

7. Why are royalties important to you as professional music men?

We are not in it for the money.

8. Do you remember what you spent your first royalty cheques on?

Clearing debts - its boring I know. Irwin has had a boob job.

9. In the video for Goodbye Mr A you dressed up as lycra-clad comic book characters. If you could have any special powers what would they be?

The power of self cleaning.

10. Who or what inspires you?

Everything is inspirational - brilliant people, books, films, vistas.
