Cliff hopeful of Eurovision crown
Revelations in a new Spanish documentary suggest that Cliff Richard's Congratulations was denied a win in the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest by a fascist plot.
According to the documentary, Franco, the Spanish dictator, was keen to enhance Spain's international image and so dispatched TV executives throughout the continent to buy goodwill from voters by commissioning TV programmes and signing concert contracts in exchange for votes.
Spain's entry, La la la by singer Massiel, pipped Richard's Congratulations by just one vote to win at the event held at London's Royal Albert Hall.
