The PRS Foundation, the largest independent funder of new music of any genre in the UK, continues its support for new music in Scotland; everything from unsigned band showcases to residencies for new music creators, from commissions for new works to live performances of experimental electronic music.


Listed below are some of the upcoming activities the Foundation is involved with in Scotland:


Scottish Music Centre
The PRS Foundation is supporting the Scottish Music Centre (SMC), a focal point for new music in Scotland. The centre provides a variety of services and resources, from the production of sheet music to promotion via their website. SMC actively promotes Scotland’s music locally, nationally and internationally. It also undertakes performance and development opportunities for artists.

The PRS Foundation is backing sound, an exciting festival of new music in North East Scotland, aiming to make new music more accessible to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. A wide range of music and sound (classical, contemporary, improvisation, traditional, popular, jazz, experimental, ambient, sound art, electro-acoustic…) is programmed through a variety of events including concerts, talks, installations and workshops.

The Scottish Flute Trio
A new work by Thea Musgrave (commissioned with help from the PRS Foundation) is being premiered by The Scottish Flute Trio on 13 November 2008.

An Tobar, The Tobermory Arts Centre
The PRS Foundation is supporting AN TOBAR, the only publically funded, multidisciplinary arts centre in Argyll. Established in 1997, it has grown to become a vibrant centre for visual arts, craft and music, promoting innovative and creative work at the heart of this island community.

Scottish Borders Community Orchestra
SBCO are premiering their new PRS Foundation funded work by Alasdair Nicholson on 30 November 2008.

Interesting Music Promotions (IMP)
IMP are independent promoters bringing quality underground and eclectic music to venues in and around Aberdeen. Artists from across Scotland are featured as well as showcasing interesting and leftfield musicians lurking around the depths of the local scene.
