Luva Anna
From the rich seam of music emerging in Dundee, our first track comes courtesy of Luva Anna.
Hard working lads, they’ve played over 150 gigs across the UK in the last 2 years, taking in the Carling Academies and supports with The View and The Law, as well as countless festival performances and Scottish tours.
Somehow, they’ve also managed to fit in some recording, with two EPs out already and a single on the way at the end of Summer 2008.
The radio DJs like what they hear, with XFM Scotland, BBC Scotland, Radio 1 and Radio 2 all spinning tracks from the records, and a Radio 1 session booked in for July.
Have a listen to The Ballad o’ Boaby Smith, by Luva Anna.

The Vibrants
Smashing! The Vibrants - A five piece guitar group, they should be easy to describe. But what’s this? Harmony vocals; a Hammond organ; great songs; smart arrangements, and they’re good looking too – they’re not just another guitar band at all are they?
Picking up international airplay with their recently released Incoming EP, they have been flitting backwards and forwards across the Atlantic to perform in the U.S. and Canada, picking up lots of fans along the way. They’ve got over 4000 friends on Myspace, and if they all buy the next single when it comes out, it will probably go straight into the Top 40 - the campaign starts here!
In the meantime, here is Shows You Up, by the Vibrants.

Tom Hickox
Our third act, Tom Hickox, blends the skills of iconic songsmiths like Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake and Elvis Costello with the experimental soundcscapes of outfits like Air and the Super Furry Animals, to create a unique sound that is picking up fans across the UK. His performance at Fringe Sunday will be a stripped-back solo set, with Tom on piano and vocals.
Tom's track for our podcast is The Pretty Pride of Russia.
His latest album Fear in a Handful of Dust features 8 more of Tom’s darkly beautiful songs; get hold of more of his music by visiting myspace.com/tomhickox or tomhickox.com |

Juzzie Smith
Our last act for part one is Juzzie Smith, who joins us as a special international guest, from New South Wales in Australia.
Juzzie is a multi-instrumentalist who somehow manages to play all his instruments at the same time; they used to call them one-man bands, but that doesn’t really do justice to the extraordinary musicianship of a performer like Juzzie.
Listening to Juzzie is a delight that allows to absorb the joy of his songs, but to truly appreciate his versatility, you need to see him perform live (or at least watch one of his many YouTube videos).
Juzzie’s podcast track is Do Right.
Juzzie is currently touring the World, so wherever you are, watch out for him – you won’t be disappointed. Check myspace.com/juzziesmith or juzziesmith.com for more information. |
