 Podcast 4

Every month we will be creating a podcast featuring members that we think you'll be hearing more about.

This month we are featuring The Dirty Backbeats, Kaned, The Blazing Zoos and The KBC.

The Dirty Backbeats

The Dirty Backbeats are a five-piece from Leicester.  The core of their music is the blues, but it’s the raw punk bar-room blues of Beefheart and the White Stripes, not the sound of British pub blues.

In our podcast you can hear why they’ve been compared to Tom Waits, The Cramps and even The Who – it’s filthy, off-kilter stuff that will appeal to anyone that loves new music as much as old.  Mark Lamarr is just such a fan, and other taste-makers like Steve Lamacq and Rob da Bank are equally excited.

Their track is called The Bop, and you can pick it up on a self-released 7 inch single from the shops listed on the band’s myspace blog at myspace.com/thedirtybackbeats.  You can also visit their website at thedirtybackbeats.com

Kaned

Far from being a manufactured group, the three Kane sisters grew up making music together, and have been performing to audiences in the UK and Spain for many years.

Stylish and confident beyond their young years, they have the ability to back it up; all three are front-line singers, and they write their own songs too.

Kaned have been collaborating with some of the industry’s top writers and producers for some time, most recently with Morten Helgesen, and the results speak for themselves.

Their podcast track is called Love Has Caught You Out.

Find out about them at myspace.com/kaneduk, or kaned.co.uk

The Blazing Zoos

The Blazing Zoos make good old fashioned country and western music, with a lyrical twist.  The comfortable familiarity of the musical setting is offset by the contemporary humour of the lyrics, something that is often missing from present-day country.  We think if Badly Drawn Boy made an album in Nashville, it would sound like the Blazing Zoos.

Their podcast track is called I Didn't Have The Material Before Now.

The Blazing Zoos have a few UK dates coming up – and owing to their disparate lifestyles, live appearances are pretty rare, so try and catch them while you can.

The KBC

The KBC have been gigging for 3 years, and before that, James Mulholland, Ric Ormerod and Michael Brown were in the same class at school.

They’ve played all across Europe, gigging alongside The Strokes, The Paddingtons and Forward Russia.  In April this year, they did a Radio 1 session for Steve Lamacq.

The KBC run their own club night, CLUB SANDWICH, in their home town, Preston in Lancashire, which provides a showcase for new local bands.

See if you can resist dancing while you listen to Not Anymore by THE KBC.

The KBC - find out what they are up to at myspace.com/shoutkbc, or at thekbc.net
