How to obtain clearance for the use of music in greetings cards.

What are the rights and formats covered under the agreement?

The scheme covers the right to manufacture and distribute audio and audio-visual products which reproduce music and general interest content supplied with Greetings Cards across CDs, cassettes, records and other audio formats.

 

How do you apply for the scheme?

You must complete the AP7a application form and send it to us along with a covering letter explaining that the application is made under this scheme.

 

Once admitted onto the scheme, do you have to apply for individual product clearances?

Yes.

The music % is calculated by dividing the total music duration by the total product duration.  There is a minimum overall product (card plus disc) dealer price of £2.

 

How does the clearance process work?

Application form sent to us ---> Application processed ---> Clearance granted.

What are the main restrictions of the scheme?

There is a 20 track limit for music products.  Prior approval of each track is required if more than two tracks per artist per disc are included and the recordings are less than fifteen years old.
