What rights are covered in the licence?
This is a joint licence and covers the right to copy the tune (repertoire work) and the right to communicate it to the public.
How do I apply?
To apply for a Joint Podcast Licence you must complete the application form and return it to us by post, at: Online Licensing, 5th Floor BMH, 29-33 Berners Street, London, W1T 3AB.
How much does the licence cost?
The table below outlines the 2008 fees; you will need to pay which ever is highest.

The podcast licence carries a minimum quarterly fee of £50 per quarter (excluding VAT).
What does the scheme exclude?
The 2008 Joint Podcast Licence carries the following restrictions:
- Podcasts must be provided in the form of programmes in their entirety, and not as individual tracks or separate portions.
- No audio-visual content is covered under the podcast licence without approval from the Alliance.
- Podcasts must contain both speech and music, with the speech spread throughout.
- No more than 50% of the tracks used in the podcast can be performed by one particular artist or written by one particular composer without approval from the Alliance.
- No more than 2 repertoire works from a particular album or more than 2 repertoire works performed by a particular artist or written by a particular composer are permitted under the podcast licence without approval from the Alliance.
- There can be no guide providing details of the time at which particular tracks appear.
- There must not be any flags or markers inserted which enable the segmenting and seperation of tracks.
All audio/visual content will be licensed under either the Joint Online Licence (JOL) or General Entertainment On-Demand (GEOD) licence depending on the nature of the content. For limited (i.e. small scale) Podcast services, please refer to the Limited Online Exploitation Licence (LOEL).
How does the reporting process work?
Under the Joint Podcast Licence you will be required to report full music use on a quarterly basis.
