What are the rights and formats covered under the agreement?
MCPS:
- The right to copy MCPS members' music in order to use music on premium telephone lines.
- The encoding of that file onto a server.
PRS:
- The playing of music on premium telephone lines.
How do you apply for the scheme?
Separate MCPS and PRS applications are required (please note these will be processed together).
To apply you should confirm in writing that you agree to the terms and conditions of this scheme and send your payment.
You are not cleared for the sound recording right under this scheme. Please contact Phonographic Performance Limited on 020 7534 1000 or the relevant record company.
How much do you pay?
MCPS:
Where using commercial music:
5% of your gross receipts.
Where using production music:
3% of your gross receipts.
A £500 (+VAT) non-returnable advance is also required for the use of any music on premium telephone lines. This will be off-set against royalties and should be paid prior to the commencement of the scheme.
PRS:
Where sales are not part of the service or where the music use is not of a short duration of each total call. |

There is a minimum annual charge of £529 for this scheme.
How does the reporting and payment process work?
Under this scheme statements must be submitted to us each quarter detailing the gross revenue earned on each phone line using music, together with a copy of the accounting document received from British Telecom and details of the music featured. Statements should be submitted within 31 days of the end of each calendar quarter and payments made immediately upon receipt of our invoice.
