The AP4 Agreement covers the issuing of audio products (CDs/LPs) in the UK as Trade Samplers or 'demos' used for promotion. They are not for retail sale. All products must be marked with the word 'Promotional Copy - Not For Sale'.

How to obtain clearance for the use of music on trade samplers used for promotion.

What are the rights and formats covered under the scheme?

The mechanical right across audio only formats such as CDs, records and tapes.

 

How do you apply for the scheme?

You don't make a separate application for the scheme, you become a signatory to the scheme once you apply for your first product clearance.

 

Do you have to apply for individual product clearances?

Yes.

 

How do you obtain product clearance under the scheme?

Applications can also be submitted to us via CatCo if you are a PPL member. CatCo will then forward your details to us.

 

How much do you pay?

Licences are issued in blocks of 500 irrespective of the exact quantity:

How does the payment process work?

Application for licence form submitted to MCPS ---> MCPS raise an invoice ---> Conditional clearance granted upon receipt of payment.

 

What does the scheme exclude?

The release of Covermount CDs (covered under the AP7/AP7N schemes). The giving of copies cleared under the scheme to the general public.
