The Memory Cards (MC) Agreement covers the use of music on memory cards (including General Interest content) for sale to the public in the UK.

How to obtain clearance for the use of music on memory cards.

What are the rights and formats covered under the scheme?

The scheme covers mechanical (making copies of the music) and synchronisation (using music with visuals) rights for both commercial and production music across memory card format.

How do you apply for the scheme?

To apply you must contact us and supply a manufacturing statement 21 days before your required manufacture date.

How much do you pay?

Music Products = 8.5% of 'Published Dealer Price' (excl. VAT) x number of units manufactured.

General Interest Products = 8.5% of Published Dealer Price (excl. VAT) but the charge is reduced proportionately when the duration of music used is shorter than the duration of the product (excl. data storage capacity).

How does the payment process work?

Application form submitted to MCPS ---> MCPS send out invoice ---> Clearance granted on receipt of payment.

What does the scheme exclude?

Games (where the game is the main feature). Products with reproduced lyrics as graphics. Recordings of shows or excerpts from shows. Use of music online or as ringtones (please refer to our Mobile clearance schemes). Any forms of sponsorship. Part-loaded MCs (i.e a product which includes data storage capacity. These are cleared under the SG3 scheme - Premium Products).

What are the main restrictions of the scheme?

Content on memory cards is limited to 200 minutes.

The customer must ensure that users are unable to edit or copy the content contained on the product.
